the 1st birthday. 2nd dose completed before entry into

| Hepatitis A |
2 doses on or after 1st birthday
grades K-3. Applies to Grayson County. THIS
APPLIES ONLY TO K-3. |
| Hepatitis B |

| Varicella(Chicken Pox) |
1 dose on or after 1st birthday grades
K-12. 2 doses are required if the child is 13 years old
or older at the time the first dose was received. |
| Varicella #2 |
CDC began recommending 2 doses for all ages
Jan 07. Children 13 and older receiving varicella vaccine
for the first time have always needed 2 doses. The Grayson
County Health Dept. and some other providers have started giving
dose #2 when the "kids" come in for other immunizations. |
| HPV (Gardasil) |
It is licensed for ages 9 thru 26. The
Grayson County Health Department has the VFC vaccine for ages 9
thru 18 years old. It is a 3 dose series given over a 6
month period. There is a bill before the Texas legislature
that would push the 'requirement' out until 2009 at the
earliest, but Gov. Perry wants it in 2008. |
| MCV4 |
(Menactra/Meningococcal Conjugate) This
vaccine can be given as early as 11-12 years of age. It is
usually given when a child's Tdap booster is due. As of
this writing, it has a 10 year span which will take the child
thru college. It is not a requirement for attendance in
high school in Texas. HOWEVER, children attending college
in Oklahoma MUST have it; and Austin College is requiring it.
Also, many Texas colleges/universities are highly recommending
it for kids living in dorms. If the parent waits until
their child turns 19, it will cost $110.00 at the Health
Department versus being covered under the $10.00 paid for the
Tdap booster. |
