COMP DAYS

You may download this 2008-2009 COMP day form to submit to your campus principal.

The current TBISD instructional calendar ends May 31st this year. You may begin accumulating your comp days for the 08-09 instructional calendar year after May 31st, 2008. Also, the principal is required to “sign-off” on your comp day staff development workshops because it is relevant to your PDAS instrument.

This district’s agreement with TEA is: a staff member may attend three extra days of professional development (technology, GT, ESL, special pops, content based) during the summer (which is  vacation time) and redeem those days during the instructional year for vacation days. These redeemable days are set by the District Committee when the calendar is created. You’re just trading work days. You are unable to forward accumulated vacation days during the previous instructional calendar year.
Here’s the explanation of the law: Comp days are in lieu of  instructional days. TB applied for a waiver with TEA to allow students three days to stay home in order for the staff to receive training to enrich instruction. Because the training may not be available on those exact three days, the staff is able to use three days of their “vacation” during the summer to go to training.
The staff may then; “redeem” those three “extra” work days for three vacation days during the school-year.
