Joe Jaska
President Joe Jaska was elected to the Board of Trustees
in 2007, and was elected as President of the Board in
2008. He has completed the statewide training program,
Leadership TASB, sponsored by the Texas Association of
School Boards as well as other board training programs.
Mr. Jaska is married to Amy and is the father of four
children. He is a 1984 graduate of Tom Bean High
School, and he has earned a B.A. in Business from Austin
College in 1988. He is employed by FFE Transportation
Services as Vice President of LTL Operations.

David Harrison
Vice President
David R. Harrison was elected to the Board of
Trustees in 2003. He is serving his sixth year, and he
has served three years as Vice-President and two years
as President of the Board. Mr. Harrison and his wife
Lisa, have three children ages 17, 20, and 22. They are
all graduates of Tom Bean High School. Mr. Harrison is
a 1982 graduate of Tom Bean High School, and a 1990
graduate of Texas A & M Commerce. He is employed as a
software engineer by Affinity Financial Corporation.

Brian Trentman
Secretary Brian Trentman was elected to the board in May,
2008. He is married to Teddi, and has four children
attending Tom Bean: 3 boys and 1 girl, grades 6 thru 11.
Brian is an engineer at Texas Instruments, and a 1983
graduate of Bellevue West High School in Bellevue, NE.
He received a B.S. in Mech. Engineering from the
University of Nebraska, and a M.S. degree in Engineering
Management from SMU. |

Steve Book
Steve Book graduated from Sherman High School
in 1980. He has been married to his wife Mary Anne for
27 years, and he has lived in the Tom Bean district for
most of that time. Their oldest son Nick graduated from
Southeastern Oklahoma State. He and his wife Courtney
own a home in Denison. Mikale is a senior at Texas
Tech in Lubbock and Hunter is entering Middle School
here at Tom Bean. Steve and Mary Anne own Book's
Floors specializing in custom solid hardwood and
refinishing. Steve is active in the First United
Methodist Church, Tom Bean Youth Sports Association and
TREK, He is presently serving his 3rd term on the Tom
Bean School Board. |

David Ellis
I have served
on the Board of Trustees for three years. I am a 1981
graduate of Tom Bean High School. I am active in the
community having served as Vice President of the Tom
Bean Chamber of Commerce and President of the Tom Bean
Youth Sports Association. I am also a member of the
First United Methodist Church in Tom Bean. My wife,
Kristi and I, have four children Amy 25, Tyler 16,
Tanner 12, and Allie 10. He is president of Ellis Tool &
Machine, Inc. and Vice-President of Tiger Ridge
Manufacturing, Inc. in Tom Bean, Texas.

Jimmy Jones
I graduated from TBISD in 1980. I have been
employed by Fisher Controls for 28 years
currently in the role of Supervisor for the
Rotary Assembly and Machining Depts. My wife
Mary and I have 3 daughters Stephanie 26,
Mallory 22, and Katie 12.

Stan Woodruff Stan Woodruff has been a previous member of the
board for three years, and he was re-elected in May,
2008. Mr. Woodruff and his wife Alice, have one son and
one daughter. He is a 1966 graduate of Bonham High
School, and an East Texas State University graduate with
a B.B.A. degree in Economic and Finance. Mr. Woodruff
is self-employed with W & W Builders, Inc., where he
general contracts new home construction and remodels.
In addition, he owns the Tom Cat car wash. He has been
a past city council member in Trenton, Texas, and a life
member on the Board of Directors of the Grayson-Fannin-Cooke
County Home Builders Association.

What Does
your School Board do?
The Board of Trustees is a policy
making body of persons, elected by the citizens of a
school district. The policies which it establishes
are executed by the administration of the schools.
Board members have no authority except when
functioning as a member of the board in an official
meeting.
Candidates run for specific places
but do not represent certain geographical areas.
Following the annual election, the Board elects a
president, a vice-president and a secretary to serve
one-year terms.
Major responsibilities of
the Board:
Manage and govern the public
schools of the District;
Adopt such rules, regulations and bylaws as the
Board deems appropriate;
Levy and collect taxes and issue bonds;
Prepare, adopt and file a budget for the
succeeding fiscal year and file a report of the
disbursements and receipts for the preceding fiscal
year;
Have the District's fiscal account audited at
district expense by a Texas certified accountant;
Receive bequests and donations or other monies or
funds coming legally into its hands in the name of
the district;
Order, canvass the returns, declare results and
issue certificates of elections as required by law;
Acquire and hold real and personal property in the
name of the district; and
Have the legal power and duty to perform other
specific duties imposed by statutes of the State of

Frequently
Asked Questions
Are Board meetings open to the public?
Every meeting of the Board shall be
open to the public. The Board may, however, adjourn
to an executive session to discuss personnel matters
or land acquisitions, to obtain certain legal
counsel and discuss litigation or to discuss cases
involving discipline of a student enrolled in public
school.
When and where does the
Board meet?
Regular Board meetings are scheduled
for the third Monday of each month at
7 p.m. in the High School Library, 7719 St. Hwy 11,
Tom Bean, Texas. The Board reserves the right to
change Board meetings to other days and times
whenever it becomes necessary.
What is the procedure for
addressing the Board?
A 30-minute general open forum will
be held at the beginning of each regular Board
meeting to allow for public input on any topic.
Patrons wishing to address the Board should sign-in
on the designated sheet.
When recognized by the Board
chairman, please approach the lectern, identify
yourself by
name
address
if applicable, the organization you represent.
All remarks should be addressed to
the Board as a whole; Board members will listen but
not respond to remarks made during open forums.
Please limit your comments to three minutes.
Delegations of more than five persons should appoint
one person to represent the groups views.
Discussions of personnel or comments
regarding District employees are not appropriate
during Board meetings.

District Goals
1 Tom Bean ISD will
promote academic excellence through a balanced and
rigorous curriculum and instruction
for all
students.
2. Tom Bean ISD will
communicate with all stakeholders on a regular basis
to provide parental involvement and
community
support.
3. Tom Bean ISD will
commit resources to attract and retain highly
qualified employees for all positions in the
district.
4. Tom Bean ISD will
support a safe and disciplined working environment
for all Tom Bean ISD employees
and students.
5. Tom Bean
ISD will
develop and continue drop out prevention efforts so
that all students will earn their high
school
diplomas.
To be an effective and cohesive TBISD Board of
Trustee, we believe in:
a.) attending all meetings,
b.) being fully prepared,
c.) acquiring proper training -- 16 hours for
new members, 8 hours for continuing members; and
d.) promoting positive Board relations at all
times.
